Bears draft JT Thomas in 6th round
I was really hoping the Bears would have selected Mark Herzlich with their final pick in the 6th round. Sadly they did not but they did draft a linebacker. With the 195th pick in the draft they selected JT Williams out of West Virginia. I did find a great scouting video of him so you can really see the guy in action. He wore #30 for the Mountaineers.
Thomas was a all-big East selection and was part of a very good defense at West Virginia. To be honest I don't know much about him and with the Bears final 3 picks they really disappointed me. He does seem like the type of linebacker Lovie likes. He is a very hard worker and won the Iron Mountaineer Award for dedication and work ethic in the weight room and off season workouts twice.
He did have an ankle injury during his freshman year which is the reason he was redshirted. Something that should concern the Bears is the neck injury he suffered this past fall that caused him to miss most of the fall camp.
With Hunter Hillemeyer's career probably done due to concussions and Piso and Nick Roach both free agents there is a chance Williams could come right in to compete for playing time. If they do see him as the strong side backer he will have to bulk up to take on those extra blockers.
If anything else he should be a solid guy on special teams.
I'm going to go through a complete draft recap tomorrow where I will give out my grade. After the first 2 rounds I was giving them a solid B+ and was even leaning to an A- but I feel that will be dropping but I need to look into the picks more.
