We all knew it was coming. No matter what we thought we all knew Lovie Smith would be getting his deal extended, it was just a matter of time.
Well on Friday the Bears announced that head coach Lovie Smith's contract has been extended two seasons. So now instead of his deal expiring at the end of the 2011 season it will expire after the 2013 season. No financial details were disclosed so we have no idea yet if he also received a raise or not.
I have made it very clear in the past how I feel about Lovie. I feel he has been a very lucky coach over his time here with the Bears. I believe Lovie is a very good coach Monday through Saturday but come gameday he is subpar to say the least. There are too many awful challenges or plays that weren't challenged to list and let's not forget the use of timeouts. Remember back in 2006 with that timeout during the Seattle game?
Also I have always hated his attitude and the perfect example is today while talking to the media when asked if this season was a must win. His answer: I have a three year deal so no.
The only reason I'm some what supportive of this move is because the assistant coaches have all stayed in place. And on the bright side, Lovie's deal will now expire at the same time as Jerry Angelo so if things don't work out they will both be on the street.
