Enough is enough. After messing around with the Pacers for 4 games and losing a game and playing close in the first half of game 5 the Chicago Bulls decided they had enough.
The Bulls dominated the Pacers in the second half and clinched their first round series in 5 games just as I predicted. Chicago scored 62 points compared to Indy's 43 on their way to a 116-89 victory.
Derrick Rose & Co. now wait the winner of the Orlando-Atlanta series which has the Hawks leading 3-2 which will have game 6 in Atlanta on Thursday. Most likely this round doesn't start till next week so the Bulls will have a much deserved break to rest up and get healthy. Maybe they can also figure out what is wrong with Carlos Boozer who only scored 2 points in the series clincher.
Drose didn't look slowed by his sprained ankle as he lead all scorers with 25 and finally had a decent night shooting going 8-17 from the field including 3-8 from 3pt land. Luol Deng had a terrific night scoring 24 points while adding 3 steals, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Maybe this statement game will shutup the national media who many started to question the Bulls because they were struggling against the 8 seed Pacers.
For the Pacers they also sent a message to the NBA that they are a young up and coming team. Under interim coach Vogel they went 20-18 and gave the Bulls all they could handle in the first 4 games of the series. Indy might actually provide the Bulls a little competition next season in a division which saw the Bulls go 15-1 during the season.
It will be very interesting to see who wins the Atlanta-Orlando series but whoever the Bulls draw I believe it will be a tough series that probably goes 6 games. Orlando can play the physical game like the Pacers did but lack the big defender to throw at Rose while the Hawks lack the physical presence but have plenty of big defenders to throw at Derrick. The Bulls won the series 2-1 against Atlanta losing a 3 point game down in Atlanta in early March while they also won the Orlando series 3-1.
Giving Coach Thibs a week to scheme against either of those teams could be dangerous and it will also allow Drose to rest up that ankle. It's going to be a fun May.
