If things hadn't fallen right in the first round Stephen Paea could have been taken by the Bears in the first round. Thankfully everything seems to be coming up Bears so far in the NFL draft. Did it feel as weird reading that as it did to type it?
With the 53rd pick in the 2011 NFL draft the Chicago Bears selected defensive tackle Stephen Paea from Oregon State University.
You wanna know one thing about this guy? He is strong. He benched 225 lbs 49 times at the combine this year.
Paea is 6'1, 303lbs and won the Morris trophy in back to back seasons (2009 & 2010). He was named the Pac-10 defensive player of the year and was a 2010 All-American. How did this guy last till the 53rd pick in the draft?
Born in New Zealand he will turn 23 in May. He did suffer a torn lateral meniscus in his right knew during the opening practice of the Senior Bowl so maybe that could explain a bit of his slide.
Stephen should slide right in at either tackle spot immediately replacing the released Tommie Harris.
