As you may have heard a few weeks ago when I had Dez Clark on my radio show The MG Experience, he clearly stated his first preference was to return to the Chicago Bears. It looks like he will get that wish.
Clark, 34, signed as a free agent with the Bears in 2003 and has 323 catches for 3,591 yards with 27 touchdowns for his career.
After trading Greg Olsen and not bringing back Olin Kruetz this is a nice addition to the offense which currently was lacking a proven pass catching tightend. Kellen Davis has been stuck as the third stringer the past few seasons and newly signed Matt Spaeth is more of a blocker then a catcher.
Clark will probably find his services much better used this season then last where he only caught one pass for 12 yards. Ideally hopefully Dez can contribute about 30-40 catches and somwehere around 500 yards and provide Jay Cutler a pass catcher over the middle. Offensive cordinator Mike Martz actually said in his press conference on Tuesday how important it was for the Bears to bring Dez back.
Martz will have a lot more weapons to play with this season as compared to last. Some players from last season like Hester, Knox, Bennett and Forte are back but they are now joined by Roy Williams, Sam Hurd, Marion Barber and even though he was here last season Dez Clark is a bit different then Greg Olsen. If the offensive line can hold out Jay Cutler may be in line for a Pro-Bowl bid.
