Bears 7 time pro bowler Lance Briggs said he wanted to be traded unless he got a new contract.  On Wednesday the Bears gave Lance Briggs a 1 year 7 million dollar extension that will lock him up till 2014.

This is actually an extension to his 36 million dollar contract he signed in 2008 as an unrestricted free agent.

Briggs has been with the team since 2003 when the Bears picked him 63rd overall from Arizona.

Briggs has made the Pro Bowl 7 times (2005-2011). He has 969 tackles, 10.5 sacks, and 13 interceptions.

Beside Brian Urlacher on the Monsters of the Midway defense, Lance has pure talent that has been key to the Bears D.  Briggs can pursue tackles with no problem and if he left the Bears he would be missed.

Now that Lance is locked up, this Defense will be dominated again this year. Julius Peppers, Israel Idonije, Corey Wootton and Henry Melton this will be a top 10 defensive line  this upcoming season.  And Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs leading that LB crew and Charles Tillman with the DB’s. Even Chris Conte, a great Safety, the Bears will be unstoppable.

According to a NFL Source, this is how Lance Briggs contract breaks down up to 2014.
